Some people think that arthritis is a disease for the aged but those who do are completely off track! You can never be too young or too old to be afflicted with arthritis. This disease can catch you very young, sometimes at an age when you are completely unaware of even its existence!
But coping with the disease when you are young can be a lot easier since the condition is still in the stage of its infancy and easily controllable. However, you have to make a list of dos and don’ts and maintain it strictly.
1. Monitoring weight: You cannot allow yourself to be overweight. This disease will not go away if you are fat and, as a result of this, putting too much strain on your joints. Your knees have to bear the brunt of your weight and before long, they start to creak. If you are overweight then you need to immediately shed some pounds.
2. Exercise: Gentle but regular exercise can keep the arthritis at bay. In order to look after your joints you have to work them out. Swimming, yoga, cycling – these are some of the workout regime you can follow on a daily basis. But remember not to stress yourself out. This will only defeat the purpose. If you go for a walk, ensure that the shoes you have got on are comfortable and flat. Your feet should not feel the stress of walking because this will cause pain and discomfort. Also walk on a flat track so that your feet, again, do not feel any stress.
3. Omega-3 fatty acids: These are very effective in the treatment of arthritis so include this in your daily diet. Eat fish like sardines, tuna, herring, and mackerel because these are rich in oil. If you are not getting enough of it in the food you eat, then take supplements. Also take duo-glucosamine and chondrotin to avoid deterioration of cartilage.
4. Injuries: Prevent the occurrence of injuries by being careful when playing sports or doing any work. Lift things carefully and avoid doing it with a jerk or with sudden movement. This will help preserve the health of your joints.
