Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season and our marathon of eating. If you are like most Americans, you will be consuming mass quantities of all the wonderful foods and beverages we’re warned not to eat. All that palatable pleasure could certainly lead to discomfort and pain. Perhaps this would be an appropriate time to offer a few home remedies for treating and preventing acid indigestion.
· Mix lemon juice or cider vinegar with a glass of water and drink before your meal.
· Ginger tea after a meal helps with digestion, as does tea made with blackberry, raspberry, mint or chamomile.
· For instant relief (and a big BURP) drink a glass of water mixed with a teaspoon of baking soda.
· Some folks find drinking milk before or after a meal coats their stomach and helps with acid reflux.
· Other find chewing on a piece of celery helpful.
· Chewing gum or sucking on a hard candy produces saliva and helps neutralize stomach acid.
· Bananas have a natural antacid effect on the body and can relieve heartburn.
· As much as you would like to lie down after a large meal, please don’t. The stomach acids will back up into the esophagus and you will suffer a most unpleasant case of heartburn.
· The most important tip of all………..Eat and drink sensibly.
Wishing you all a Very Happy Thanksgiving.
