Obesity linked to Cancer!

 

As someone who used to be overweight, 350Lbs to be exact, I can empathize with the feelings and emotions that one commonly experiences with obesity. However, a recent report now shows that obesity is also directly linked with increasing your chances of developing all types of cancers. I know I was shocked to hear this, as I had always thought that being overweight was only associated with heart complications.
 
While the exact link between obesity and Cancer is still being researched, there are very well educated theories on the matter. First, it is known that fat creates Estrogen. Yes men we have some too, and some of these Cancers feed off of the Estrogen hormone. Being obese also hurts your Immune System, and damages the body’s ability to fight off various kinds of viruses and diseases, which can increase your chances of developing a Cancer.
 
Even more alarming is the fact that once a Cancer has been contracted and a person is obese, Cancer survival rates go down. Obesity causes many complications with Cancer treatments, but what Doctors do know is that Cancer treatments just don’t work nearly as well when an individual is obese.
 
 
The numbers for the increased risk of Cancer due to obesity are absolutely incredible:
 
Endometrial Cancers: 49%
Esophageal Cancers: 35%
Pancreatic Cancers: 28%
Kidney Cancers: 24%
 
There is hope though! What these numbers are telling us is that if we are able to lose the weight, the chance of getting Cancer is highly reduced, and boy should this new information give people more motivation than ever!
 
For anybody even considering trying to lose weight, or just starting out with the weight loss adventure, there is one major lifestyle change that can be made today which I can confidently say helped me during my struggle the most. That change is to adjust your portions and amount you eat during the day. Don’t let this change intimidate you! Once this important lifestyle change has been made by you, any diet program that you decide to use will be immensely less stressful, and the feelings of deprivation highly reduced to a point that you’re goal will be that much closer in sight!
