We are in the midst of summer and enjoying the glowing warmth of the sun. Get as much of it as we can. But, a summer day trip, while it should mean fun in the sun, can be ruined by anything – from a nasty bee sting to sunburn. So, we need to take extra caution when we are out picnicking.
Here are a few tips you could keep in mind when going on what is meant to be a carefree, happy jaunt.
Try to avoid anything that you are even remotely allergic to. If you are prone to hay fever, then make it a point to check the pollen count before you go. Carry an antihistamine with you. And get your physician to recommend medicine for inflammation in case of bee sting.
If you are prone to travel sickness, carry some ginger or any anti-nausea medication with you. It would be a rotten start to a good day if you were to start throwing up within the first mile itself.
Being outdoors will mean being exposed to the sun throughout. And sunshine can be both painful and dangerous. So, exercise caution. Around noon, try to move in the shade and keep yourself covered up. And don’t forget to carry your sunscreen protection with you. Apply it as soon as you are outdoors. This is an important step.
Being outdoors will also mean walking about a lot. If you have gone to a theme park, for instance, that would mean covering up miles on foot without even realizing it. That would ultimately mean sore feet and blisters. So, one needs to ensure that one is wearing sensible comfortable shoes and anti-blister socks, which could be found in sports shops.
And lastly, but most importantly, carry a first-aid kit with you. Equip it with medicines for bruises, stings and shocks.
