Compression Wear

If you have varicose veins, you might try to cover up your legs with stockings or trousers and avoid wearing skirts but the discomfort is obvious on your face. Because, varicose veins are not only a not-so pleasant sight to behold but can be quite a pain, too.
Varicose veins are caused mainly due to the enlargement of veins. The leg muscles pump the veins to return blood to the heart. The reflux of the blood into the veins is prevented by leaflet veins which are part of the valves. But on the enlargement of veins, the leaflets do not meet properly and therefore, do not function to keep the blood out. Because of this inaction, blood accumulates in the veins causing even further enlargement. This leads to the appearance of swollen dark purple or blue veins on the back of the calves or the inside of the legs. They may appear elsewhere on the body too but they are most commonly found on the legs.
Varicose veins are not a cosmetic problem, as some may believe. They are actually a disease one that can easily be treated.  There are no serious complications of varicose veins, as such, unless in case of a rupture where one may suffer blood loss and therefore, need immediate medical attention.  However, sometimes it can get really painful and the person will find it difficult to stand for long hours. They can also itch and cause discomfort.
If your varicose veins get really painful, then they would need removing. There are both surgical and non-surgical methods of removing them. But these would be in extreme cases. However, with a few lifestyle changes, one can reduce or cure this condition. These changes would include keeping the weight down, eating healthy, exercising regularly and avoiding standing for long hours. One should keep the legs in an elevated position as much as possible, avoid crossing the legs when sitting down and desist from wearing tight-fitting clothes.
Other than that, compression stockings can help to a great extent. These stockings, through graduated compression, support the venous and lymphatic systems of the leg. Maximum compression is provided at the ankle and eases gradually further up the leg. They improve performance of the calf muscle pump, increasing blood flow in the veins by applying graduated pressure to the leg.
These compression stockings are usually made from rubber or elastic fibers and are elasticized. They are classified according to different compression, as per the tightness of the fitting around the legs. On this site you will find a wide range of compression stockings from Juzo, Jobst, Therafirm, Ita-Med, Futuro and more.
The Futuro Firm Knee High Open Toe/Open Heel 20-30mmHG stocking provide relief to chronic tired and achy legs and for those suffering from mild varicose veins and slight ankle swelling. These are available in three sizes and made of nylon and spandex.
