In my earlier write-ups we have discussed body odors in great depth, why it occurs and how it can be prevented. But I don’t know how many of us give it a serious thought. How many of us actually believe that we cannot and should not get away with an offensive smell emanating from our physical presence.
We all know that it is not good to smell not good. Yet, many of us continue to smell foul and don’t do much about it. We blame it on humidity. We just don’t realize that body odor is in a way a social offence!
If you think I am taking it too seriously, then let me substantiate my belief with a recent news report I read which said that an American library has ‘banned people with offensive bodily odors from using its facilities’!
Now that’s getting real serious, isn’t it?
Well, the Schaumburg Township District Library in suburban Chicago has issued this prohibition after there were complaints from library users about the foul smell in the facilities because of some people.
Going into details… this complaint came about after a homeless person wandered into the library raising a ‘stink’. This led to the library users going to the management to complain about the hygiene issue and soon the latter issued a list of don’ts which specifies that strong body odor is not permissible within the facilities.
Now, this body odor is not restricted to foul smell but also to someone wearing strong perfume, the management clarified.
So, now when you visit this library, you not only have to ensure that you do not run around, talk loudly, carry an uncovered drink but also, make sure that you have taken a good bath!
