Did you know that flossing the teeth daily is linked to good health of the heart! I am sure not many of us are aware of this and if this is a fact, then all of us need to get our flosses out and moving, right?
These days more and more health experts are coming out with statements that dental hygiene is good not only for the health of the teeth but of the whole body. It is being said that if left untreated, gum disease can cause inflammatory reactions in the body triggering heart disease and strokes. This is a serious thought and pretty worrying too. Many of us tend to ignore those pinches and flash of pain we experience on drinking cold water or hot tea. And continue to ignore till this small ache turns into an inflammatory pain that finally necessitates a rush to the dentist. And then comes the bad news… either you need a root canal or, worse still, everything is over! Your tooth needs to be pulled out!
Cannot live without a tooth, can we? It feels like losing a vital part of your being. Therefore, insist dentists, come for regular check-up... say every six months.
Most of us can relate to the fear of a trip to the dentist – the grind of the drill, the harsh light and the nasty taste of the mouthwash! But what we must also understand that this trip can be quite innocuous if we keep a strict vigil on our teeth at home. Thorough brushing, flossing and using a mouthwash can keep our teeth in good health, no doubt.
Experts recommend that dental care should be made a part of everyday life as soon as one can. That is from a very early age. Parents should begin dental hygiene as soon as tiny white lumps appear beneath their child’s gums. And before the child turns three, parents should look for a pediatric dentist or one that has an excellent record with kids.
Catch them early, right?
