Weight gains have gained tremendous concerns these days and people are getting more and more figure conscious. This is true not of the female gender alone but also the males who are increasingly flocking to the gym to bring on those muscles and get a toned look. All for a good cause, of course. A healthy body is a healthy sign and symbol of a healthy mind, too.
But, to my mind, it isn’t necessary that a slim figure always signifies a healthy body. These, I would think, can sometimes be separate issues. For example, one could be slim but at the same time that thin body could be harboring ailments. However, a healthy person will be one with a healthy figure.
Recently, it was reported in the BBC that in a study conducted on women, it was found that women are more obsessed with their figures than other health concerns. In an online poll conducted, women were found to be more worried about their weight and ageing than about developing cancer!
Around 25 percent of them listed weight as their main concern, with the figure for women between the ages of 20 to 40 saying they worried about it more than anything else. The second biggest worry for them was ageing. All of these were given precedence over stress, cancer, heart disease and infertility.
Now, this could be a dangerous trend since it just goes to prove that for a lot of people, maintaining a slim body is more of a fashion issue than a health one. Critics have often talked about this and now we have the figures to prove this too. This is the reason behind the popularity of fad diets like South Beach, Atkins, Zone, Sonoma and many more similar ones.
It is of course advisable to maintain a healthy figure and have a healthy body. But this can be achieved through natural, carefully-planned, healthy eating instead of going for these diet plans which in some cases have led to more health problems than resolving them.
Have you ever tried any of these diets? If you have then please share your experience with us.
